Former Norwich City coach Christian Fluthmann has lost his job as head coach at Eintracht Braunschweig, despite his team sitting fifth in the German third tier.

Fluthmann left his role as a coach and analyst with the Canaries a year ago to take on a job as a coach at Braunschweig, but was then promoted to head coach this summer after the club had finished 16th in 3 Liga.

After a strong start to Fluthmann's reign, winning six of the opening seven games, Eintracht have won just one of their last eight and were held to a 1-1 draw at lowly Preussen Muenster last Monday.

That has cost Fluthmann his job, despite signing a contract until 2021 when he was appointed. The 37-year-old had been working as an under-16 coach at Borussia Dortmund previously and followed Daniel Farke across to England in 2017.

His position was filled by Christopher John at City, who switched from a role as U21s assistant coach at Paderborn to join Farke's staff and helped keep the Canaries on course for promotion to the Premier League.

Braunschweig - who Norwich signed winger Onel Hernandez from for a reported £1.7million in January 2018 - were a Bundesliga club regularly in the 1970s and 80s but have only played in the top flight for one campaign since 1985, in 2013-14.
