Former Norwich City loanee Felix Passlack believes his spell in Norfolk has aided his development – despite a lack of game time with the Canaries.
The highly-rated 21-year-old joined City on loan in the summer of 2018, with supporters excited about the prospect of a Borussia Dortmund youngster joining their ranks.
By the end of the season, the Championship title was claimed and the excitement surrounded a graduate of their own academy.
Passlack found his game time limited due to Max Aarons’ emergence, but the German right-back ensured City’s youngster had fierce competition throughout the season and remained a part of the group which equalled the record for the amount of points in a Championship season with 94.
Aarons made his senior City debut in a League Cup fixture against Stevenage in August 2018, starting as a left-back as Passlack looked to stake his claim for a shot at the right-back position.
Eventually, Aarons made that spot his own, overtaking Passlack and excelling in a system that involved both full-backs pushing up the pitch.
Despite his lack of involvement, Passlack is opting to extract the positives from his loan spell in England – saying the experience has drastically improved his game.
“It did not go as I hoped,” Passlack told SportBuzzer reflecting on his time with the Canaries.
“However, I believe that my game, because of England, has become more robust and athletic without spending a lot of time on the pitch. Now I am happy that I managed to gain a foothold in the Eredivisie.”
Passlack is enjoying a productive season with Todd Cantwell’s former loan club Fortuna Sittard in Holland, where he has been operating in a more advanced role. He has featured in all bar one of Sittard’s games, scoring two goals and even playing as a central midfielder on occasion.
Sittard are 16th in the Eredivisie table prior to the coronavirus enforced suspension. Passlack holds aspirations of returning to Dortmund as a first-team player to realise those high expectations following his early breakthrough at the club. City supporters will be watching his development intently.
