Norwich City and Blackburn are reportedly among the teams which could rival Leicester for the signing of former Inter Milan defensive prospect Ryan Nolan.

The 21-year-old lived in the Republic of Ireland until he was eight years old and was capped throughout the age groups up to under-18 level.

His family moved to Mercia in Spain and as he was close to joining Villarreal at 16 years old he was scouted by Inter Milan and made the move to Italy.

After featuring regularly at youth levels he was named on the bench for Inter’s first team during two Europa League games during 2018-19 but following the arrival of former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte in 2019 he was let go.

Nolan joined third-tier side Arezzo and made nine appearances during the first half of last season, before joining divisional rivals Giana Erminio and making one loan appearance.

The Sun report that Arezzo are now willing to let the central defender leave on free but with a big sell-on clause in any deal.

The report states that Leicester are “considering making a move” but that Championship teams Norwich and Blackburn have also been monitoring a player who came close to joining Leeds last summer, only to be put off by the prospect of an immediate loan to Scottish side Falkirk.

VERDICT: Nothing to get too excited about at this stage, as would clearly be a signing with an eye on the future if it did happen.

Very much has the feel of an agent getting his client’s name circulating in England but little reason to doubt that City may have been monitoring Nolan.

It would be difficult to compete with Leicester’s financial muscle but the Canaries could point to their recent academy successes.

Akin Famewo leads the way for young options at centre-back currently, having captained the U23s and enjoyed a positive loan in the Scottish Premiership last season.

City have Famewo and Belgium U21 international Rocky Bushiri signed to long-term deals, who is currently playing in the Belgian top flight for loan club KV Mechelen.
