Former Norwich City striker Kyle Lafferty has shared his bumper survival bonus with his team-mates at Norwegian club, Sarpsborg.

The Northern Ireland international joined Sarpsborg in August and was on a substantial bonus if they could survive the drop.

A 0-0 draw against Lillestrom confirmed their survival and it was revealed that Lafferty had told his team-mates he would share his windfall as an added incentive to avoid relegation.

Sarpsborg defender Niklas Gunnarsson said: "Kyle told us before the match that if we managed to avoid relegation he would share the bonus. It was a nice gesture."

Manager Geir Bakke added: "Yes, I've heard about this! But that's Kyle for you - he's crazy and wonderful."

Sarpsborg skipper Joachim Thomassen said the money will be going on a "big night out".

"It was a generous and kind contribution from Kyle," he said. "But remember, he can afford it!

"Kyle has a slightly different CV than most people, but he's a fantastic guy.

"It's been fun to play with him and he's been fantastic for a club like Sarpsborg.

"We have a bit of cash in the pot now, so I'm looking forward to having a night out."

Lafferty was a bit-part player in his time at Carrow Road, scoring four goals in 39 appearances for the club after being signed by then manager Neil Adams from Palermo in 2014.

After running his contract down at Norwich he joined Hearts in the summer of 2017 before earning a move back to Rangers where he enjoyed success earlier in his career.

The 32-year-old had just one season back at Ibrox before embarking on his Norwegian adventure with Sarpsborg.
