He may seemingly be out of the picture at Carrow Road once more, but Simon Lappin will still get his chance under Bryan Gunn according to Norwich skipper Mark Fotheringham.

The 26-year-old's last appearance in a City shirt game in November 2007, Glenn Roeder's third game in charge as Norwich were thumped 3-0 at Plymouth.

Despite a successful loan spell at Scottish Premier League side Motherwell, Lappin has been completely out of regular first team football. However, Lappin has been backed by the man he arrived at Carrow Road alongside, as the current skipper revels in Norwich's new found strength in depth.

"There are good quality players and guys like Simon will be raring to go now," said Fotheringham of Lappin; the pair being signed at the same time by former manager Peter Grant just over two years ago.

"He's been training excellent under Bryan and I'm sure Gunny is going to keep him in his plans and give him a chance sooner or later, because I think he feels he was hard done under the previous regime.

"I've got nothing for respect for him. He's 100 per cent, he's a professional guy, he never caused any problems in his situation and people forget his last game under Glenn was a game when the whole team never played well down at Plymouth, and the week before he got man of the match against Ipswich at home.

"Some managers make decisions when they come in, but he's got a very strong character.

"He's a good lad, he's going to be working hard and I'm sure he'll get his chance."
