Reading 0, Norwich Academy 0: City's Academy side took their unbeaten run to three games after they fought out a goalless draw at Reading this afternoon.

David Williams saw his young side shade the first 45 minutes, while the home side came more into the game after the break.

Both sides started the match playing some attractive passing football without causing either defence too many problems.

The Canaries' first attempt on goal came through Bally Smart's header from a Jamie Eames cross. The City forward failed, however, failed to get any power on his header.

The home side went close with an overhead kick from Liam Marum.

Not for the first time this season, Chris Martin was switched from attack to midfield and he sent in a 25-yard shot that Ben Hamer, in the Reading goal, did well to get down to save.

Reading stepped their game up after the break, Simon Church sending his shot just over the crossbar.

City 'keeper Joe Lewis was called into action to make a save from Pierre Joseph Dubois after the Reading striker ran on to a delightful through-ball.

Next it was the turn of Nicholas Bignall after he burst into the City penalty area, but his shot was wide of the target.

City schoolboy Tom Miller tried his luck from the edge of the area and, despite the fact that Hamer had to scamper across his goal, the defender's shot was wide of the mark.

It was, however, not all one-way traffic in the second half with Martin seeing a shot deflected wide, while Smart fired a shot across goal that was not so very far wide.

Williams made a couple of late changes, introducing Andrew Fisk and Luke Daley, but with very little injury time, both teams had to be content with a point.
