Joe Lewis' proposed loan move has fallen through - because it was for one game only.

League Two side Shrewsbury were keen to take the 19-year-old Broome keeper, but City boss put a stop to the move.

“I think they had an injury problem but I wasn't going to allow him to go because I read the script and I thought it was maybe just for one game until their keeper came back,” said Grant.

“If Joe goes anywhere he is going to go to be playing because I need to see him play.”

Grant has four keepers to choose from, with Lewis down the pecking order behind Paul Gallacher and on-loan pair Jamie Ashdown and Lee Camp.

It's been between Gallacher and Ashdown, with Camp unable to get a look-in. However, while Grant says the Derby keeper can look for a loan move elsewhere, he admits his attitude puts him back into the reckoning.

“Lee is not my player, he's a loanee, but I have seen a different side to that,” said Grant. “When I came in I wanted to make a change in the goalkeeping situation, have Gallagher and one other because I felt Lee had made his mind up he wanted to go back. He wasn't happy at the time, and if you have anybody who is not happy I don't want them around the club. But since then he has been no problem whatsoever and worked very, very hard in training. That's why the other night he was on the bench.

“It would have been easy enough to put young Joe on, but Lee has been working hard in training and he has been focussed in that respect, so as long as he is here we will utilise him.”
