Emi Buendia possesses the attributes to become a top player, according to his Norwich City team-mate Max Aarons.

The Argentine has been a prominent player in City’s offensive armoury, contributing to a high percentage of the chances created during the current campaign.

Aarons says that, despite Buendia’s ability, communication proved to be difficult when the 23-year-old initially joined the Canaries, due to his lack of understanding of the English language.

“When Buendia came over, he couldn’t speak a lot of English but he picked it really quickly,” said Aarons.

“The sooner people pick up the language, then you start having more conservations and banter with them.

“Emi was playing on my side and, earlier on when he couldn’t speak English, it was hard to communicate, but now he can speak great English.

“There’s a massive effort from the players who come over to learn the language and that’s important.”

Buendia was pivotal in the Canaries’ title assualt in the Championship and emerged as one of the best technical players in the division.

He has taken that form into the Premier League, recording seven assists in spite of City’s profligacy in front of goal.

Head coach Daniel Farke took exception to Buendia’s goal output and urged a healthier return from the midfielder. Buendia suffered a spell out of the side but was back to his menacing best on his return.

He is yet to record a single goal in the top-flight, but his performances have still caught attention.

Despite operating on the same side to the Argentine, Aarons knows all too well how difficult it is to play against the winger, with his attributes difficult to defend against.

“He’s not really a player who will get on the ball and take you on as a full-back.

“His game is more about getting into pockets, playing neat passes and creating things.

“When you’ve got someone, who wants to run at you, then it’s easier to lock them down whereas someone like him is quite intricate so it’s hard to get near him.

“He’s tenacious and very strong. He’s got a lot of attributes,” Aarons told the Byline Podcast.
