Daniel Farke is the latest name in the frame for Norwich City’s head coach vacancy - with reports on Monday night he could be confirmed as the Canaries’ new boss by the end of the week.
German media claimed earlier on Monday evening the 40-year-old coach, who succeeded David Wagner as coach of Dortmund’s Under-23s, was a target for the Canaries.
The Daily Telegraph’s John Percy reports a deal could be concluded by the end of the week with Farke’s backroom team set to join him at Carrow Road following talks with City’s sporting director Stuart Webber over the past fortnight.
Webber recruited Wagner from the same club when he was at Huddersfield and the Canaries’ figurehead was keen to make another appointment from German football to become Alex Neil’s long term successor.
Farke is contracted to the Bundesliga heavyweights until next month, but German media claim he has already indicated he will not extend his contract as he looks to further his coaching career, with Bayer Leverkusen and Darmstadt recently linked.
Farke began his coaching path at fifth tier SV Lippstadt 08, where he spent six years as a sporting director and later manager before moving to the eight-time German champions.
During an 18-month stint in charge of Dortmund’s promising development side, Farke only lost one home game and the 40-year-old’s squad finished runners-up this season in the West regional league - recognised as the fourth tier in German football. Farke signed off at the weekend by guiding Dortmund’s second team to a 1-0 win over arch rivals Schalke.
Webber had been linked with FC Union Berlin’s Jens Keller but the ex-Schalke coach told German tabloid Bild at the weekend there had been no approach. Fleetwood’s Uwe Rosler and Wagner himself have long been touted with the Carrow Road vacancy, which City’s top brass aim to fill by the end of this month.
