Canaries striker Jamie Cureton has held talks with Shrewsbury, according to the League Two club's manager, Paul Simpson.

“Cureton is a player I've spoken to, but I haven't had a yes or no - but that also goes for a number of others,” Simpson said.

“I'm looking for someone with a track record of scoring goals, but at the moment I'm hitting a brick wall.

“To be honest, I've been looking since Grant Holt left for Norwich in the summer. “You'd think players would want to come to a decent club, with a decent stadium, and score a few goals for their CV - but getting definitive answers is proving impossible.”

Cureton - currently nursing a slight groin injury - has been linked with a number of clubs given that his Canaries career is now all but over, although news of Shrewsbury's interest appeared to be news to Paul Lambert yesterday morning.

“I haven't heard anything,” he said of the player whose contract is up at the end of the season. “Jamie knows the situation. I have spoken to him, but until it comes from me there is nothing different.”

If Cureton left during the emergency loan window it would free up some finances, although Lambert looks likely to stick with his current squad as the season enters its final third.

“I'm happy with what I have got,” he said. “The lads have put themselves into a position to having great belief we can do everything we can to get out of the league.

“I have always had great belief in them that they will win games. That doesn't change.”
