January transfer window spending looks likely to decline year-on-year again in the Premier League, with limited business completed as the final week of the window begins.
Permanent fees of around £45million have been forked out by top-flight clubs so far, with the window to close at 11pm on Friday, January 31.
Financial experts Deloitte reported last year that the Premier League's spending in January transfer windows had peaked in 2018 when it hit a huge £430million - double that of January 2017.
That was thanks to huge deals including Liverpool paying Southampton £75m for Virgil van Dijk, Arsenal signing striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund for £55m and Manchester City a similar fee to Athletic Bilbao for defender Aymeric Laporte.
However, that decreased massively to around £180m last year and it looks unlikely that total will be surpassed this year, despite the broadcast riches which swell the coffers of top-tier clubs.
