Daniel Farke is urging Josh Murphy to seize his big chance at Norwich City, after his brother’s big-money move to Newcastle United.

Jacob’s protracted transfer to the Premier League could open the door for his twin, who has impressed the German head coach during pre-season.

Murphy was prominent in the early stages of Wednesday’s 2-0 friendly win against MSV Duisburg, just hours after Jacob’s Tyneside switch was confirmed.

Farke is a big admirer of the 22-year-old but is now challenging Murphy to make an irresistible case for a start when the real action gets underway at Fulham on August 5.

“I think Josh is in a good condition. These last few games he has been really brilliant with the ball at his feet and dribbling,” said the City chief. “I like him very much as a player. He is a brilliant talent but this is pre-season and he has to prove it in the Championship but right now I am content with his performance. Yes, for sure he can push for a starting place.

“Right now, we have 16 players who are available and for me they are all pushing to present themselves in pre-season to play the games. Right now, Josh has done really well in the first weeks and for sure he has some chances.”

Murphy will be on duty in Friday’s German tour finale at Arminia Bielefeld, along with City’s summer imports who were influential in the Duisburg victory.

Farke is promising there is more to come, with Mario Vrancic and Harrison Reed already striking up an understanding in the centre of the park.

“I always want to dominate the centre of the game and midfielders are pretty important for our game,” said Farke. “It was a really good relationship on the pitch between them (Mario and Harrison) and I am content with the boys.”
