City full-back Jürgen Colin's future should become clearer by the end of the week - after he appeared in a high-profile friendly in Glasgow last night.

The 26-year-old Dutch defender is nearing the end of a three-week trial with Ajax, and he was given the chance to impress when he played the full match for them in a 1-1 draw against Rangers in front of a crowd of 32,770 at Ibrox Park.

Colin, who was signed from PSV Eindhoven for £250,000 in July 2005, has intimated that he would like to return to his homeland after two seasons with the Canaries, which have brought him 64 senior appearances, but he still has a year of his Carrow Road contract to run.

Manager Peter Grant - ironically still in Holland while the Dutchman was in Scotland - said: “Jürgen was playing against Rangers last night in Glasgow. But the end of this week he should have played two games for them and we will know exactly where we are.”

Grant said he was aware of possible interest from League One club Brighton in goalkeepers Joe Lewis and Paul Gallacher, both left out of City's Dutch tour, and reiterated his wish to send Lewis out on loan this season.

He said: “One of the reasons I didn't take Joe was because he knew that I was looking to loan him out.

“He's been excellent in training but it's important he plays matches because that's more beneficial for his development, getting match experience.”

Brothers Ryan and Rossi Jarvis were also left out of the Holland trip and could be in line for further loan spells, but Grant said there was no definite move in the pipeline for either of them.

“There have been a few inquiries but people want to see how the boys shape up,” he said.

“To be fair to them, I didn't want to bring people who would not get time on the pitch, or just get a few minutes.”
