Norwich City goalkeeper Tim Krul made his first international appearance for the Netherlands since 2015 tonight, but was unable to prevent his side losing 1-0 to Mexico.

Krul’s impressive form for the Canaries has resulted in a return to the international scene – but he’s been forced to wait for his ninth cap.

His last arrived in October 2015 against Kazakhstan where he suffered a major knee injury that saw his career stall.

A revival with City has seen him reinstated under previous manager Ronald Koeman after impressing in the Premier League – but Frank De Boer, the Netherlands new boss, started Krul in their friendly defeat to Mexico.

Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Raul Jimenez scored the only goal of the game to prevent Krul’s return from being a memorable one. Jimenez won and scored a penalty to help Mexico claim victory.

City’s keeper did make an impressive save after half-time from Jesus Corona’s effort.
