The League Cup offered a fine chance for several Norwich City players to get some valuable game time at Crawley - but things did not go to plan.

It's League Two opposition for the Premier League visitors, who come into the competition at the second round stage having reached the fourth round in five of the last six seasons.

The tie offers a first ever visit to Broadfield Stadium for the Canaries, near Gatwick Airport in West Sussex, which has a capacity of just over 6,000 and look likely to be sold out.

The Red Devils were promoted for the first time in 2011 and were in League One between 2012 and 2015 but are now in their fifth successive season in the fourth tier.

They were beaten 3-1 at Carrow Road by a young Norwich team in the second round in 2014, the only previous meeting of the clubs, when a Josh Murphy brace added to Cameron Jerome's opener for the hosts.

Gabriele Cioffi's team sit 12th in League Two after a 3-2 win at Leyton Orient made it two wins and a draw from their first five league games, and knocked out League One opposition in the first round when they won 3-2 at Walsall.

Crawley have striker Mason Bloomfield on loan from City so he will be ineligible and have two former Canaries in their ranks, academy product George Francomb, who was released in 2013 after four appearances and went on to play over 200 games for AFC Wimbledon.

Former Canaries loanee Jimmy Smith is also captain and hoping to return from a knee injury, with the midfielder having made nine appearances for Norwich back in 2007 under Peter Grant and Glenn Roeder while on loan from Chelsea.
