Canaries young keeper Joe Lewis is keen to take manager Nigel Worthington up on his offer of a loan spell during the coming season.

With Robert Green sidelined by injury, Lewis is currently number two to Paul Gallacher, but because he has never had a long run in the squad Worthington is keen for the promising 18-year-old to get first team experience elsewhere to ensure he can cope with the demands of Championship football.

Lewis believes it is an opportunity he would embrace should Worthington find himself with enough cover in his goalkeeping department.

“If Greeny gets himself fit then it's possible I can go out on loan,” he told the club's website. “I would love to go on loan if the opportunity is not arising at Norwich.

“I'm not fussed where I'd go, as long as it was regular first team football at a decent level - whether that's League One or League Two.

“Reserve team football is a good level, but it's not as competitive as league football. At League One or League Two level there's a lot riding on games.”

The 6ft 5in Academy product knows this could be a significant season as far as his own career is concerned.

“It very much depends on the fitness of Greeny, but it's possible that he might not be fit in time for the start of the season which might mean that I am on the bench,” he said.

“It means I've got to get myself fit for the possibility of having an opportunity in the first team.”
