Ipswich Town's new addition has asked the Portman Road faithful to forgive him for his time on loan at Carrow Road. Ipswich Town's new addition has asked the Portman Road faithful to forgive him for his time on loan at Carrow Road.

Lisbie spent a month at Norwich on loan from Charlton in 2005, scoring one goal in six appearances before returning to the Valley - one of those appearances coming at Portman Road in City's 1-0 win over Ipswich.

But it was Lisbie's subsequent move to Colchester United 12 months ago which saw the 29-year-old finally make his mark, bagging 17 league goals in 39 starts.

It earned the striker a move to Suffolk, for an undisclosed fee, making him only the second player other than Trevor Putney to play for the three East Anglian teams and now Lisbie hopes the Portman Road fans will accept his past Norwich connections.

“I hope the Ipswich fans can forgive me for my time at Carrow Road. A few other clubs came in this summer, but I wasn't interested in a move from Colchester - until I got a call from Ipswich,” said Lisbie.

“Like any player, I want to be at as big a club as possible but I wasn't pushing for a move. Not once did I say I wanted to leave and the offer of a new contract by Colchester made my decision a bit harder.

“Colchester tried to match what Ipswich were offering, but it was always going to be hard for them to do that, with the clubs being a division apart now.

“I understand that I would have become the highest paid player in Colchester history.”
