Daniel Farke's men needed just a point before kick-off against Rovers to confirm a top-two Championship finish – and with it automatic promotion back to the Premier League.

City's final home game of the season ended with a 2-1 victory over Rovers, that included first-half goals from Marco Stiepermann and Mario Vrancic.

It means City will make their top-flight return four seasons after their 2015 Wembley play-off winners were relegated under Alex Neil – and after just one season without parachute payments.

Earlier in the day, Teemu Pukki was named the Canaries' player of the season with Christoph Zimmermann in second place and Emi Buendia voted into third.

Victory was needed to maintain City's pole position in race for the Championship title, with Sheffield United winning 2-0 at home to Ipswich Town before Norwich kicked off at Carrow Road.

Leeds were relying on City slipping up to have any chance of catching them, as they host Aston Villa on Sunday lunchtime.

Next up is City's final game of the campaign, when they head to play-off bound Villa on Sunday (12.30pm) – the Villans currently on a run of 1-0 successive victories heading to Elland Road.
