Kenny McLean is a reported target for West Ham in this window, with the Hammers preparing a £10million bid for Norwich City’s midfielder.
The Sun are reporting the Scotland international is a target for City's relegation rivals, with David Moyes looking to add reinforcements to his squad.
The Hammers are claimed to have been watching the 28-year-old over the past few months with an initial intention to make a summer move for the former Aberdeen favourite.
United are close to signing Czech international Tomas Soucek from Slavia Prague, but the report states Moyes is looking for two more potential additions.
Moyes is keen to take the pressure off Declan Rice and Mark Noble, so that summer interest has been brought forward to January with the midfielder impressing West Ham's scouts.
McLean has played 23 times this season, with his only Premier League goal coming in City's epic 3-2 victory over Manchester City in September.
The Scot has been deployed as a central and attacking midfielder, although the arrival of Ondrej Duda has seen McLean revert to a deeper position.
Verdict: City are unlikely to sell anybody as they continue to battle against relegation.
McLean's contract expires at the end of next season, with this time of the window perfect for agents to link their clients with moves away.
Head coach Daniel Farke has stated on many occasions that the club's financial position is healthy, so the need to sell players isn't as great as in previous windows.
McLean has been a prominent part of City's first team and that will see them fight to retain his services in their bid for survival. West Ham are set to sign a defensive midfielder in the form of Soucek, so that could see their interest in McLean ease.
