Young midfielder Tom Scully has earned a two-year contract with a League One club following the end of his time with Norwich City.

Scully, who turns 21 next month, has joined Accrington Stanley after a trial spell having been released by the Canaries at the end of last season.

The former Liverpool and Everton trainee spent two seasons with City’s under-23s. He made 27 appearances during his first season but struggled to hold down a starting place last season, scoring twice in 12 games during the shortened campaign.

One of those was a thumping consolation during a 3-1 defeat at League One side Portsmouth in the EFL trophy and it’s in the third tier where he gets his new chance.

Accrington boss John Coleman told his club’s website: “Tom is an exciting prospect. He has a good pedigree having been at Everton and Norwich and he has impressed since he came in. He is an attacking midfielder.”

Of the other six U23s released by City, four have secured deals so far. Tricky forward Diallang Jaiyesimi signed for Swindon after helping them to the League One title while on loan last season and goalkeeper Billy Johnson signed for League Two side Stevenage.

Timi Odusina and Mason Bloomfield both joined National League club Hartlepool United, with defender Odusina having been with the Pool on loan last season, while striker Bloomfield had been in League Two at Crawley Town.
