Scottish international Grant Hanley conceded a penalty saved by City youngster Aston Oxborough in Sunday's 1-1 Premier League Two draw against West Brom at Carrow Road.

Hanley featured as an over-age player for Matt Gill’s squad, in a bid to get some game time after another watching brief in Saturday’s 1-1 Championship stalemate against Hull City.

The powerful centre-back is yet to make a senior City debut since his summer arrival from Newcastle United but was involved at both ends in an entertaining development outing.

Hanley had a key role in Glenn Middleton’s leveller, after Evan Pierce put the young Baggies in front prior to the interval. But the Scot was then adjudged to have hauled down Callum Morton, only for Oxborough to deny Alex Bradley from the spot.

City themselves missed an early penalty, when Todd Cantwell, on the bench 24 hours earlier after a call up into Daniel Farke’s senior squad, was thwarted by Brad House after Bradley felled Savvas Mourgos.

Gill’s line up also featured Adam Phillips and Tristan Abrahams in the first game for the club’s under-23s since the midweek departure of academy coach Darren Huckerby.

House was the busier of the two keepers before Albion went ahead, denying Abrahams and Bilal Kamal in addition to Cantwell.

Pierce controlled a deflected pass to volley past Oxborough in the 41st minute but City were level two minutes later when Middleton headed home from close range.

Phillips tested House again after the interval who then foiled Pierre Fonkeu as Gill’s squad were held to a fourth consecutive league draw.
