Dieumerci Mbokani has revealed that his international captain Youssouf Mulumbu has played a major role in persuading him to join Norwich City.
Canaries midfielder Mulumbu, a summer signing from West Brom himself, plays alongside Mbokani for the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The 29-year-old striker completed a season-long loan, with an option for a permanent deal, from Dynamo Kiev on Monday night – subject to a work permit being granted.
“I am very happy. I’ve always had a dream to play in England and I’ve realised that dream,” Mbokani said.
“For me this is the best moment to come here. I’ve now been through four leagues – France, Belgium, Germany and Ukraine. I decided with my family that we would come to England, so this is the moment for me.
“I want to bring something extra to the club. First of all, I am a goal-scorer and I want to score goals. But I look forward to becoming part of this group, and I think working as a team I can become even stronger on the pitch.”
The strong centre-forward has previously played for Anderlecht, Monaco and Wolfsburg and is hoping to prove he belongs in the Premier League during his time at Carrow Road.
“He (Mulumbu) was calling me all the time and telling me this would be a great team for me. He said if I came here I would score goals, so I decided to come,” he added. “I’ve spoken to Alex (Neil), he is counting on me and he obviously played a large part in bringing me here. Now it is up to me to perform.
“I can say now that I feel good physically, but I am missing a bit of match fitness. I’m going to work hard in training and it will be up to the coach to decide how I am looking in training.”
