Adam Idah’s rapid rise to prominence looks set to continue with a first Premier League start at Manchester United this weekend, with Norwich City’s other strikers still struggling with injuries, continuing a remarkable week for the 18-year-old.

The Republic of Ireland Under-21 international became the youngest ever player to score a hat-trick in Canaries history during last Saturday's 4-2 win over Championship side Preston in the FA Cup third round.

At 18 years and 328 days old that edged him ahead of Craig Bellamy and Justin Fashanu as the youngest treble scorer for City and The Times also reported he was the youngest player to score an FA Cup hat-trick, from the third round onwards, since 1957.

That was all in just his third senior appearance, the first of which was playing all of a shock 1-0 loss away to League Two side Crawley in August in the League Cup second round, followed by three appearances as an unused substitute in the Premier League as he continued to train with the first team - having signed a long-term contract last summer.

The academy product, who joined the Canaries at 16, then made his top-flight debut as a late substitute during a 1-1 home draw with Crystal Palace on New Year's Day.

Nine-goal top scorer Teemu Pukki was then rested for the Preston trip with toe and hamstring issues, while Switzerland international Josip Drmic wasn't yet ready to return from two months out with a hamstring injury.

Drmic was back in training this week but head coach Daniel Farke has this afternoon revealed that the trip to Old Trafford will come to soon for both Pukki and Drmic, who will set their sights on being fit for next Saturday's home clash with survival rivals Bournemouth.

And with fellow striker Dennis Srbeny returning to his old club in Germany this week, Paderborn, on a permanent deal that has left Idah as the front-line striker for a game against the Red Devils, with Canaries wishing the youngster luck for his big day.
