There's more important contract news coming out of Carrow Road, with star striker Teemu Pukki the latest player to sign a new Norwich City deal following his phenomenal 30-goal season.

The Finland international scored a quite incredible 36 goals in 56 matches for club and country, enjoying the season of his life - and has signed fresh terms to take him through until 2022, adding a year to his previous deal, with the option for a further year.

He not only fired the Canaries to the Championship title and enjoyed a host of award success, but also played a key part in his country winning their Uefa Nations League group to earn a Euro 2020 qualification play-off spot.

"It feels amazing," Pukki said after signing his new deal. "I had an unbelievable first year here and everyone made it easy for me and my family for this to feel like home and we are really happy to stay here a bit longer.

"I am really proud of last season. It was the best season I have ever had and I think we will understand what we really did when we play our first game at Anfield.

"Last season will help us a lot in this season. I think the togetherness we have in this team will help us a lot and help the new players settle in.

"It's perfect to be back, I didn't think I would miss these guys but I did actually and it was really nice in the last couple of days to see them.

""It was a perfect holiday, a lot happened, I got married and spent some time with my family and also had a couple of national games which went really well.

"We got two victories and I scored a couple of goals as well so it was a really nice holiday but it's really nice to be back."

With attention turning to whether the former Schalke, Celtic and Brondby forward can continue his prolific form in the Premier League, Pukki says he cannot wait to take on the challenge.

Speaking to City's website, he added: "Always as a kid, my dream was to play in Spain but I have always been following the Premier League. It is the best league in the world so obviously I wanted to play there as well and now it's happening, so I'm really looking forward to it.

"Almost as soon as it (the fixtures) came out, I saw the schedule and a lot of my family are Liverpool fans so it's actually nice to start there and what better place to start with the Champions League winners. We will go there and will try to do our best and hopefully come away with a result.

"I'm looking forward to playing against all the big teams, it will be a nice experience but I can't wait for all of the games to start."

Pukki was named Championship Player of the Season at the EFL Awards, when he was named in the division's Team of the Season alongside team-mates Jamal Lewis and Max Aarons.

He was also voted Player of the Season by Canaries supporters to lift the Barry Butler Memorial Trophy and was named the men's Player of the Year by the Finland football association.

Just one player in the club's history has scored more goals than Pukki's 29 in a season before, Ralph Hunt in 1955-56, although that was in Division Three South.

The Finn was the first to score 25 league goals in a campaign since Chris Sutton's top-flight haul in 1994 and the first since Grant Holt in 2009-10 to score 30 in all competitions.

It's the ninth new contract to be announced by the Canaries since the end of last season, following on from academy product Todd Cantwell signing a new long-term deal earlier in the day.

Fit-again striker Carlton Morris signed until 2021 before agreeing to join Rotherham on loan for next season, fellow promotion winners Timm Klose, Marco Stiepermann, Tim Krul and Kenny McLean all signed up until 2022 and winger Onel Hernandez and defender Ben Godfrey committed until 2023.

National newspaper the Mirror is also claiming today that Argentine star Emi Buendia will extend his deal, currently due to expire in 2022, due to bigger clubs monitoring the creative talent.

Reports in Bosnia have also suggested in recent weeks that midfielder Mario Vrancic is in line for a new deal, both of which would tally with sporting director Stuart Webber's assertions since last month that he wants to keep the majority of City's promotion winning squad together.
