Daniel Farke admitted Norwich City have to wise up quickly after crashing to a 3-1 Championship home defeat against a streetwise Sunderland.

City dominated possession but lacked the Black Cats’ cutting edge with Lewis Grabban’s brace and Aiden McGeady’s superb hit sealing the points before Grabban turned Marcel Franke’s header into his own net.

“Nothing special. First of all I have to confirm that we are really disappointed to lose this game,” said Farke. “In football it is not about the philosophy or the performance. It is all about the result. What we have to learn is nothing special. It is quite normal. You have to be good in the small things to bring points on the table and win games. That is quite important

“We dominated the game. We controlled possession. We had 75pc in the first half, all in all over 72pc. We had more shots, more corners. The guys performed well but we have to be good in the small things. To win a game on this level to be honest we gave away a goal kick and we were not able to defend it. Then in the second half there was a set piece and he shoots very well. Maybe one time in the season he can score like that from a standing position 25 metres out. The third goal, sloppy. We allowed a cross to come in. We score, hit the post and tried to come back but the reason we lost is the manner we defended for the first and third goals.”
