Norwich City’s Republic of Ireland international Wes Hoolahan is happy he is making up for lost time in pre-season – and there will be more Carabao Cup action to come.
The Canaries were 3-2 winners over their League Two visitors in their round one tie at Carrow Road, with Hoolahan scoring City’s second goal and making their third – dispatched by James Maddison.
The Canaries will find out their reward for dispatching the Robins come Thursday night, when the second round draw is made following Sunderland’s visit to Bury.
Sunderland are also City next’s opponents, due at Carrow Road on Sunday.
Cameron Jerome was also on target as City came from behind following an early setback, as Olly Lancashire put the visitors ahead and Paul Mullin also headed home late in the second half to make life interesting for the Canaries – both goals coming from poorly defended set-pieces.
The Canaries were unbeaten throughout their eight-game pre-season programme – and kicked off their EFL Championship campaign with a decent 1-1 draw at highly fancied Fulham.
But the controversy surrounding Nelson Oliveira’s goal celebration following his late equaliser rather overshadowed what should have been a positive day for Daniel Farke, after his first competitive game as City’s new head coach.
Following their cup clash, City welcome relegated Sunderland to Carrow Road on Sunday lunchtime (1.30pm) for City’s opening home league game of the campaign.
