Norwich City have confirmed the sale of defender Marcel Franke to Hannover for an undisclosed fee.

Hannover had announced the deal on Monday, with Franke signing a three-year deal, but that has now been ratified by the Canaries.

Sporting director Stuart Webber told City's official website: "We would like to thank Marcel for the last two years, although it didn't work out as we would have hoped, he was always professional and held high standards.

"This is a good move for all parties and we wish Marcel and his family all the best for the future."

The 26-year-old spent last season on loan in the German second tier with Darmstadt and is heading straight back to Bundesliga II with Hannover, who have just been relegated.

Franke was signed by City from Greuther Furth in the summer of 2017 in a deal reportedly worth around £2.5million but has spent most of the intervening time back home in Germany, having also had a loan at Dynamo Dresden.

He leaves having made a total of eight appearances for the Canaries, the last of which was as a late substitute during a 3-1 win at Brentford in the League Cup third round in September 2017.
