James Husband has brought an early end to his association with Norwich City, as Blackpool turn his loan into a permanent deal.

The left-back was out of contract at City this summer anyway but has committed his future to the Tangerines, having made 25 appearances for the League One club so far this season, signing an 18-month deal with the option for a further year.

Husband joined the Canaries from Middlesbrough in the summer of 2017 in a deal reportedly worth an initial £500,000, that could have risen to £1m in add-on fees, following the arrival of Stuart Webber as sporting director and Daniel Farke as head coach.

He struggled to convince during 21 appearances of that first season however, with midfielder Marco Stiepermann chosen ahead of him at times during 2017-18, before academy product Jamal Lewis emerged as first choice at left-back midway through that campaign.

Despite starting the first game of last season, due to Lewis being injured, Husband spent the majority of 2018-19 on loan in League One with Fleetwood, making 35 appearances.

The 26-year-old remained in Lancashire with Blackpool and has now signed a permanent contract, after coming to a mutual agreement to finish his Canaries deal this month.

A City statement concluded: "Everybody at Norwich City wishes James all the best for the future."

Husband signs ahead of a home clash with Tranmere in League One this afternoon and told his club's website: "I'm delighted to be staying. This is one of the most ambitious clubs in the league and I'm glad to be part of it.

"Everybody in this club wants to get to the Championship and you've seen that ambition with the players that we've signed in this window."

Blackpool sit 15th in the League One table but only seven points adrift of the play-off places and 12 points clear of the relegation zone.

Tangerines boss Simon Grayson added: "James has been a consistent performer for us this season and has the experience of playing in a few different positions.

"The plan has always been to sign him permanently and we're pleased that we've now got the deal done."
