Russell Martin and Steven Naismith have been included in Gordon Strachan's Scotland squad for a crunch 2018 World Cup derby against England next month.

The City pair were included in a 29-man party announced on Monday lunchtime for the Group F showdown at Hampden Park on June 10.

The Scots must win to boost their fading chances of reaching the finals in Russia next summer. Strachan’s squad currently lie in fourth place, after picking up seven points from five games - six points behind Gareth Southgate’s group leaders.

Scotland did revive their hopes of qualification with Chris Martin’s last-gasp winner beating Slovenia 1-0 in March. The Scots lost 3-0 at Wembley earlier in the campaign, although both Martin and Naismith were unused substitutes.

The City duo join Wes Hoolahan who is also set for international duty over the coming weeks for the Republic of Ireland.

Martin is keen to feature this time around after the bitter blow of missing out at Wembley.

“You never take your place in the international team for granted. It relies on form at your club and how the manager sees the game and the opposition. The one at Wembley was the first competitive game I had missed in about 30-odd internationals, so I was disappointed,” he said. “Thankfully I bounced back and was in the team for Slovenia when we won and kept a clean sheet. To be honest, I know it is a terrible time to have a game in the summer but I am looking forward to it.”

Canaries’ centre back Timm Klose earned a recall to the Switzerland squad on Monday afternoon for upcoming games against Belarus and an away qualifier against the Faroe Islands on June 9.

The Swiss top Group B with a perfect five wins from five opening qualifiers to lead closest challengers Portugal.
