Ben Godfrey, one of the players many Norwich City fans expect to establish himself in the Canaries first team, is reportedly wanted by a trio of clubs.

Godfrey spent last season on loan at League One Shrewsbury Town, and looks likely to be challenging for a place in Daniel Farke’s midfield in the new season.

But the loan spell with the Shrews caught the eyes of admirers, with Premier League Crystal Palace and relegated West Brom and Swansea reportedly keeping tabs on the youngster.

Godfrey – along with another young Canary, striker Carlton Morris – helped the Shrews to ultimately unsuccessful Wembley visits last season in the Checkatrade Trophy final and the League One play-off final.

Signed from York City two and a half years ago, Godfrey started 35 League One games last term, although his only Championship games for City have been two appearances off the bench.

Godfrey signed a new four-year contract with City last August and it is almost certain he will figure prominently in Farke’s plans for the new campaign.

City have banked an estimated £11m in the past week, after selling Josh Murphy to Cardiff City and, on Friday, Marley Watkins to Bristol City.

There were few complaints over Watkins’ departure while reaction to Murphy’s exit was mixed, and while fans appear to be resigned to losing star man James Maddison to the top flight, their mood would not be brightened should City consider allowing Godfrey to leave.
