Norwich City youngster Adam Idah has won a national award, as he heads off on international duty alongside several other Canaries players.

City signed off for the international break with a 2-1 win at Rotherham to leave them four points clear at the top of the Championship, giving them two weeks to prepare for the final eight games of the season.

Some of Daniel Farke’s key players will be in action though, including top scorer Teemu Pukki, as 2020 European Championship qualifying begins for senior teams.

The striker has joined up with Finland for Group J games in Italy on Saturday (7.45pm UK time) and Armenia next Tuesday (5pm), with the Finns already assured of a play-off place after winning their Uefa Nations League group.

Kenny McLean is back in the Scotland squad after shaking off four months out with an ankle injury to become a key player for Farke, with the midfielder now preparing for Group I matches in Kazakhstan on Thursday (3pm) and San Marino on Sunday (5pm).

Left-back Jamal Lewis and back-up goalkeeper Michael McGovern are joining up with Northern Ireland for home Group C qualifiers against Estonia on Thursday and Belarus on Sunday (both 7.45pm).

Timm Klose may have been on the fringes for City recently after an injury but the centre-back has retained his place in the Switzerland squad, for Group D games, in Georgia on Saturday (2pm) and at home to Denmark next Tuesday (7.45pm).

At youth levels, highly rated striker Idah was named Men’s Under-17s Player of the Year at the Football Association of Ireland’s International Awards on Sunday evening.

The 18-year-old, along with fellow Canaries prospect Simon Power, has joined up with the Republic of Ireland U21 squad for the first time, ahead of an U21 European Championship qualifier against Luxembourg in Dublin on Sunday (5pm).

Idah has been a prolific regular at youth levels for Ireland, scoring 13 goals in 20 matches at U17 level, progressing to earn U18 and U19 caps. He is yet to be involved with the City first team but is top scorer for the club’s U23s this season, with 13 goals in 21 games.

First-team players Ben Godfrey and Max Aarons are also with England, for games mostly being played at St George’s Park in Burton, with defender Godfrey joining up with the U20s for the first time for a home game against Poland on Thursday (7pm) and in Portugal next Tuesday (6pm), in the Euro Elite League.

Right-back Aarons continues with the U19 European Championship qualifying group, having already won four caps, for games against Czech Republic on Wednesday (2pm), Greece on Saturday (2pm) and Denmark next Tuesday (2pm).

Some of City’s academy youngsters have also received international call-ups, including U18s forward Tom Dickson-Peters, who joins up with Scotland U17s for three home Euro qualifiers, against Portugal, Russia and Poland.

Andrew Omobamidele and Josh Giurgi, a defender and forward respectively, are away with the Republic of Ireland U17s for two friendlies against Finland – in preparation for Ireland hosting the U17 Euros in May.

Meanwhile midfielder Anis Mehmeti, who has featured for City’s U23s recently, is in the Albania U17 squad.
