It was another action-packed weekend for Norwich City’s loan players, including a spectacular own goal, helping to stop Ipswich Town’s winning streak in League One and progress in the FA Cup.
In the Belgian top flight, Rocky Bushiri returned to Mechelen’s starting XI after three games as an unused substitute but scored an own goal in just the fifth minute, unfortunately turning a cross in off his own crossbar as he tried to clear, playing all of a 4-1 defeat at Royal Antwerp on Friday.
It was a better result for Danel Sinani with Waasland-Beveren though, with the hosts finding an injury-time equaliser to draw 1-1 with Genk, with Sinani playing on the right and involved in the build-up to the goal. Melvin Sitti missed out with a hamstring injury though.
Sam McCallum made his Championship debut as he returned for his second loan spell at Coventry, coming on in the 87th minute of a 3-1 home defeat to Bournemouth.
In League One, centre-back Akin Famewo made his second appearance for Charlton and played the full 90 minutes as the Addicks kept a clean sheet in a 0-0 home draw with Sunderland.
Carlton Morris helped MK Dons bring an end to Ipswich Town’s 100 percent start to the season, playing 84 minutes as Russell Martin’s team hit back to draw 1-1 at Stadium MK. Louis Thompson wasn’t involved for the Dons as he makes his way back from injury.
Full-back Jordan Thomas didn’t feature as Leyton Orient lost 2-0 at home to Cheltenham in League Two
In the Dutch second tier Telstar saw their upturn in form end with a 3-0 defeat against the second team of PSV Eindhoven, with Sebastian Soto and Daniel Adshead both starting the away loss, with striker Soto going off at half-time when the score was still 0-0 and midfielder Adshead in the 68th minute.
In Iceland, Isak Thorvaldsson played the opening 79 minutes as IA AKranes slumped to a 4-0 home defeat to high-flying FH Hafnarfjördur, picking up a yellow card shortly before he was replaced, as the 19-year-old started his seventh consecutive game.
Philip Heise started at left-back but was taken off at half-time as Karlsruher lost 1-0 at Jahn Regensburg to leave them bottom of the German second tier and without a point from three games
In the National League, Simon Power played 87 minutes as King’s Lynn drew 2-2 at home against Yeovil in their first game since promotion. Scottish keeper Archie Mair was an unused substitute.
There was progress to the FA Cup third qualifying round for defender Louis Lomas with Slough Town, playing all of a 1-0 win away to fellow National League South side Dartford.
Young goalkeeper Joe Rose also helped Bury Town advance with a 4-1 home win over Waltham Abbey. Left-back Caleb Richards was also in action, starting as Kidderminster Harries drew 2-2 at Alverchurch, only to lose 4-2 on penalties.
Aidan Fitzpatrick will be hoping to get his season started on Tuesday when Queen of the South travel to Greenock Morton, in the first of three League Cup games ahead of the Scottish Championship starting on October 17.
