Good intentions but Cantwell couldn’t pick the lock for City during frustrating loss at West Ham

This weekend’s Norwich City player watch kept a close eye on Todd Cantwell during the 2-0 loss at West Ham, ahead of the midfielder joining up with the England Under-21s for the first time.
3 - Barged over by Mark Noble, free-kick on the left to City. Emi Buendia's cross is too deep.
7 - Cantwell pops up on the right and flicks a Mo Leitner pass to Max Aarons, Marco Stiepermann brings an end to the move with a foul on Issa Diop.
10 - Buendia finds Cantwell, who does really well to hurdle a double challenge from Rice and Noble but over-plays pass to Teemu Pukki in the left channel, a waste.
13 - Hammers finally threaten through Felipe Anderson, Cantwell charges back to get in front of Andriy Yarmolenko in the box, slight contact but it's a delayed tumble and the Ukraine international sticks his foot backwards looking for contact. Should be a yellow card but nothing is given as penalty claims are waved away.
16 - Christoph Zimmermann's header is collected well by Cantwell but switch to the right clips Buendia's heels unfortunately, Hammers counter and heroic Zimmermann tackle denies Anderson to put the ball behind for a corner.
27 - Stiepermann pass misses Buendia in the box, Cantwell has a wild swipe, well over.
28 - Cantwell just about stays with Ryan Fredericks and blocks cross behind for a corner.
31 - CHANCE - Aarons beats Anderson on the right and his cross is so nearly headed in from point-blank range by Cantwell but ball is just behind him and can't get his head on the ball properly.
39 - Good work to get the ball to Stiepermann and then fouled by Yarmolenko as he gets the ball back near halfway.
41 - Nice spin out of trouble but then has his heels clipped by Noble, no yellow card again though. Cantwell rolls around but soon shakes it off to continue.
45+2 - Holds up Anderson on the left, pass in behind to overlapping right-back Fredericks and Tom Trybull can't block the cross, Ben Godfrey does at the near post though and Cantwell wins a goal-kick.
48 - Good determination to nip in and get Stiepermann on the break, opts to try and go back to Cnatwell rather than Pukki but Declan Rice gets a foot in to end the attack.
50 - Buendia finds Cantwell in space and he plays to Lewis on the left, who beats Fredericks but cross is too deep.
54 - CROSSBAR - Lovely move as Buendia passes inside to Leitner from the right, back-heel flick into the box and Cantwell is through on goal, blasts against the underside of the bar and ball bounces clear but offside flag is up, correctly.
56 - Sloppy touch but keeps the ball in play, however, pass back is poor, missing out Jamal Lewis completely, and allows Yarmolenko to attack down City's left, who beats Leitner and finds Noble, Buendia intercepts but can only prod back to Yarmolenko by mistake and the winger volleys in for 2-0.
65 - Aarons shanks a clearance, Cantwell picks it up and tries to play to Lewis on the left but it's a dreadful ball straight out of play.
67 - Set free on the left and cuts in, is robbed by Noble, tackles back and free-kick is given. Holds up the ball to the referee to say that he'd won possession, looking frustrated.
74 - Anderson skips away from Trybull but attack breaks down, Cantwell charges away, evading Rice well but then flick to Pukki is poor and Diop intercepts. Cantwell again struggling to hide his annoyance.
75 - Spreads left to Lewis, who tries to prod through to Pukki but can't, Cantwell closes down Fredericks and deflects the clearance to allow City to regain possession.
77 - Buendia's corner is cleared, City recycle and Cantwell is brought down by Noble, free-kick is taken quickly and wasted though.
77 - Replaced by Kenny McLean
VERDICT: Bright first half and plenty of effort throughout but performance was symptomatic of the overall display from City, with little working out for Daniel Farke's side. More effective than Buendia and Stiepermann on the whole but will be hoping for action with the England U21s during the break to try and shake off this frustrating match.
