Norwich City are being touted with a move for Charlton striker Lyle Taylor in the January transfer window.

The Canaries are one of a number of clubs monitoring the 29-year-old, who is out of contract at the end of the season, with Sheffield United, Burnley, Brentford, and Nottingham Forest all keen according to TeamTalk.

The Addicks could be keen to cash in on the forward now given they will lose him for nothing in the summer if they can't get him to commit to a new deal at The Valley.

Taylor has scored five goals in his last seven games for Charlton but has only just returned from a knee injury.

Charlton boss Lee Bowyer hopes the club's new owners will offer the striker a new deal to keep him out of the clutches of their rivals.

Taylor joined from Wimbledon last year and has been a revelation for the Londoners. A new deal wasn't going to happen under former owner Roland Duchatelet but new chairman Matt Southall has indicated he will offer Taylor a long-term contract.

Taylor returned from the bench in the weekend's defeat to Middlesbrough and Bowyer was delighted to have his talisman, who has scored 30 goals in 52 appearances for the club, back.

"He fights, he competes for every ball," said Bowyer. "He puts dangerous balls into the box. The most important thing is that he's back. We got 45 minutes into him. We'll try and do the same on Tuesday (at home to Huddersfield)."

Verdict

Doesn't fit the normal profile of player that City have targeted since Stuart Webber's arrival but with the Canaries often struggling to offer much goal threat beyond Teemu Pukki, he could be seen as a decent short-term solution.

Josip Drmic has shown few signs of shaking off the injury prone tag he arrived in the summer and is currently sidelined with a hamstring problem.

Dennis Srbeny notched in the win at Everton but any move for the speedy Taylor would seem to indicate that Adam Idah will be allowed to go out on loan in the new year to gain first team experience.
