Norwich City transfer rumours: Arminia Bielefeld defender Julian Borner not on Canaries radar, but they are still interested in Lincoln City centre-back Sean Raggett – if the price is right

Work is ongoing as Norwich City look to rebuild their defensive reinforcements ahead of the new Championship season – with one name in the frame and another to write off.
German regional publication Westfalen-Blatt reported on Thursday the Canaries wanted to lure 26-year-old Arminia Bielefeld defender Julian Borner to England – however, that suggestion is believed to be wide of the mark.
Another defender linked with Norwich is Lincoln City centre-back Sean Raggett, who has a reported £350,000 release clause in his contract.
The 23-year-old defender is not at the top of the Canaries’ defensive wish list, but they remain interested in bringing in the former Gillingham trainee – although Lincoln’s valuation of a key player may yet dictate where the defender ends up.
Raggett, who stands 6ft 5in, has also been linked with Premier League West Bromwich Albion after a season in which the non-league Imps reached the FA Cup quarter-finals and earned the National League title – and with it, promotion back to the EFL.
Borner was said to have rejected a lucrative “dream move” to England with Norwich due to the fact “the time is simply not right” for the defender, who became a father for the first time at the end of May.
The report even quoted a fee of £1.75m – with Borner’s current club also described as “heavily indebted”.
Having released Ryan Bennett, Sebastien Bassong and Michael Turner this summer, captain Russell Martin and Switzerland international Timm Klose remain the only recognised senior centre-back options on City’s books as things stand.
However, fresh defensive recruits are high on the priority list of head coach Daniel Farke and sporting director Stuart Webber – and that may well now come to the fore following City’s initial transfer business being completed.
So far the Canaries have brought in 26-year-old forward Marley Watkins as a free agent from Barnsley, as well as securing a season loan for 21-year-old Manchester City goalkeeping starlet and Norwich academy product, Angus Gunn.
And arrival number three was confirmed on Thursday, as City completed the £650,000 signing of Darmstadt midfielder and Bosnia international Mario Vrancic.
City are yet to sell, although it is an open secret both Jonny Howson and Graham Dorrans are prime candidates for Carrow Road exits this summer should the Canaries received tempting offers.
