New Aston Villa manager Roberto Di Matteo could target a reunion with Norwich City midfielder Graham Dorrans for his first signing at Villa Park.
Dorrans has already been touted with a summer move to Rangers, which was dismissed by Alex Neil in the wake of the Canaries’ relegation, but former Skysports journalist Graeme Bailey on football website ‘Here is the City’ claims the 29-year-old has been earmarked by Di Matteo to start his new era in the Midlands.
Dorrans was a key figure in Di Matteo’s West Brom side which won promotion from the Championship in 2010, scoring 13 goals in 45 league appearances, before the Italian left the Hawthorns the following season.
The Scottish international started the final two games of Norwich City’s doomed Premier League campaign but was a peripheral figure for the most part behind the likes of Jonny Howson, Alex Tettey and Gary O’Neil in Norwich’s central midfield last season.
Meanwhile, Norwich City is one of a number of clubs touted with Bournemouth’s out-of-favour attacker Lee Tomlin. The 27-year-old former Peterborough talisman has made only six league appearances for the Cherries since a £3.5m move from Middlesbrough. Newcastle, Hull and Bristol City have also been linked.
Two of City’s loan imports last season could also be on the move again with incoming Celtic chief Brendan Rodgers eyeing a £3m move for Liverpool defender Andre Wisdom. Rodgers handed the attacking full-back a long term deal when they worked together at Liverpool and the Northern Irishman is ready to make a move, according to the Daily Mail, for the 23-year-old who had to cut short a Norwich loan spell after suffering a knee injury in the 3-0 Premier League defeat to Sunderland in April.
Chelsea frontman, Patrick Bamford, is being linked with both Aston Villa and Newcastle. The Daily Express report Bamford could be available for £10m this summer and the striker is proven in the Championship after winning the player-of-the-year during a prolific stint at Middlesbrough in 2014/15. Bamford failed to score in seven Premier League appearances for the Canaries last season.
