Jacob Murphy is the subject of a four-way tussle from Premier League clubs following the Norwich City youngster’s eye-catching impact for England’s Under-21s after his breakthrough season at Carrow Road.
The Daily Mirror report on Thursday, scouts from West Brom, Crystal Palace, Southampton and Swansea are all keeping tabs on Murphy out in Poland. The reportedly £7m-rated 22-year-old produced an influential cameo in the 1-0 win over Slovakia that edged Aidy Bothroyd’s Young Lions closer to the European U21 Championship semi-finals.
Murphy is expected to feature later on Thursday evening in the final group game against the hosts, with a win securing a last four spot.
The City starlet scored 10 goals in 41 senior appearances for the Canaries in the most recent domestic season, and was rewarded for his outstanding displays with a new four-and-a-half year contract in November, keeping him at the club until 2021.
City sporting director Stuart Webber made it clear at the start of the summer every player has a price, ahead of the opening of the transfer window, but Murphy is seen as one of the cornerstones of the new Daniel Farke era and it would take a considerably higher offer to tempt the Canaries to sanction his departure.
“If in the event someone did come for our highly-talented ones it is going to cost a hell of a lot of money,” he said. “At that point we have to be realistic. If a top 10 Premier League club come for one of our players and offer us £20m no-one is stupid enough to say we can turn that down.”
