Norwich City transfer rumours: Baggies star's contract situation being monitored
West Brom starlet Rekeem Harper is reportedly on Norwich City's radar this summer, with the highly-rated young midfielder yet to sign a new contract with the Baggies.
Harper only turned 19 in March but has been a regular during the second half of this season to help Albion secure fourth place and a play-off place, with semi-final clashes against local rivals Aston Villa looming.
The central midfielder is an England Under-19 team-mate of City's right-back Max Aarons but the Birmingham-born starlet has been in contract talks in recent months, with no deal yet struck.
Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly been keeping a close eye on that situation and now The Sun claim Norwich have joined the race for Harper's signature, following their promotion to the Premier League.
If West Brom manage to get promoted then it would seem likely they will hang on to their academy product but other clubs can make offers to capture him on a free transfer, although compensation would then be due and settled by an independent committee.
Harper made his debut for the Baggies as a 17-year-old in a Premier League game last season, before spending time on loan with Blackburn in League One
His career kicked up a gear in January though when he started against Norwich in a 1-1 Championship draw at The Hawthorns, remaining a regular ever since.
VERDICT: Clearly a player with big potential so if he decides not to sign fresh terms with the Baggies then there is likely to be plenty of Premier League interest in him.
City are thought to be considering a central midfield addition and his age and ability would seem to suit their criteria, particularly for a cut-price compensation fee.
Seems unlikely Harper would move on if the Baggies do go up through the play-offs though, given that he's playing regularly.
