Scottish giants Rangers are considering signing long-serving Norwich City defender Russell Martin on loan during the January transfer window, according to reports north of the border.
The 31-year-old hasn’t featured under Daniel Farke since an awful 4-0 loss at Millwall at the end of August, having featured as captain in the opening seven games of the German coach’s reign.
Martin was a stalwart of the Paul Lambert era, joining from Peterborough in November 2009 to help City win the League One title and then Championship promotion in 2011.
Playing a key part in the three Premier League campaigns and another second tier promotion which followed, the Scotland international has made a total of 309 appearances for Norwich – placing him 22nd in the club’s all-time appearances list.
The Daily Record report that the Canaries are happy for Martin to leave in January, claiming that Rangers are keen on a loan deal.
Former City U18s coach Graeme Murty has recently been appointed manager until the end of the season following a spell as caretaker boss.
Brighton-born Martin has 29 international caps but hasn’t played in any of Scotland’s last six matches and has been playing under-23s football for City in recent months, making seven appearances.
