Norwich City striker Teemu Pukki has calmed talk of his injury scare, after limping off during the early stages of Finland’s latest Uefa Nations League victory last night.

The Canaries’ top scorer felt cramp in one of his legs and was substituted in just the 12th minute in Tampere, giving City fans a worry ahead of Saturday’s Championship game at Nottingham Forest.

Supporters will have to wait until later in the week for a full update from head coach Daniel Farke ahead of the Forest game but the 28-year-old did speak to the media after the game.

Pukki had taken his tally for the season to nine goals in 16 games for club and country when he scored a late winner in Estonia on Friday – his third successive goal in a 1-0 win for his country.

However, that remarkable run on the international scene was brought to a sudden halt as he trudged off despondently, looking close to tears because of the disappointment.

Pukki was pictured celebrating with his team-mates at the final whistle though, after they beat Greece 2-0 without him – to leave themselves needing just one point from two games to win Group C2 and seal promotion and a place in the European Championship qualification play-offs.

“It went when Jasse Tuominen played the ball through. I stopped and felt it a little, something perhaps went then,” the former Celtic and Brondby man told Finnish newspaper Iltalehti.

“It was annoying that I wasn’t able to continue but I have never really had a muscular injury (like this) in my career before. It’s frustrating but these things happen in football, I’ll come back from this.

“I know we have top-of-the-line backroom staff (at Norwich), so they will patch me up.”

Chris Goreham: City need to find more Pukkis...and they’ve shown they’re out there

The free summer signing has scored six goals in 13 games for City and has been the starting striker in recent weeks, starting all 12 league games so far and completing all but two.

Sheffield Wednesday loanee Jordan Rhodes is waiting in the wings to cover for the Finn, having had to be patient recently despite scoring a hat-trick during the Carabao Cup third round win at lower-level Wycombe.

Dennis Srbeny has also had limited chances this season, while Nelson Oliveira remains out of favour under Farke.
