Norwich City Reserves recorded only their second win of the season with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Watford at Borehamwood last night.

Two first half goals from Bally Smart and Chris Martin were enough to secure all three points for Keith Webb's side. And while you might have expected them to add to that tally after the break the home side came more into the match in the second half, although City keeper Joe Lewis had only the one save to make all night.

The game also marked the return of Ryan Jarvis who has been sidelined with a niggling knee injury for a number of weeks and doubtless he will be encouraged after he played the first 45 minutes and no doubt he will be looking to build on that when Chelsea Reserves visit Carrow Road next week.

The Canaries opened their account after just three minutes when Rossi Jarvis sent in a cross to the far post where Smart had the time to bring the ball under control before firing in a low shot into the far corner.

Supporting Smart down the right flank was Michael Spillane who was slotted into the right-back position which is a role unfamiliar to the Irish Republic U17 International, nevertheless the Academy youngster looked comfortable in that role and could well give City boss Nigel Worthington food for thought.

Midway through the half City could have extended their lead when Smart won the ball in midfield, before squaring it to Lee Howlett but he failed to keep his shot on target.

With 33 minutes on the clock, City found themselves two goals to the good when a Ryan Jarvis free kick to the far post was headed back into the danger area by Jason Shackell for Martin to finish from close range.

Martin might have got his second and City's third on the stroke of half-time but his diving header from a Ryan Jarvis cross was well saved by the Hornets keeper James Hoad.

The second half never really got underway although it needed two attempts from Joe Lewis to save from Theo Robinson. While of interest to Canary fans Watford introduced one Kieran Forbes, younger brother of former City favourite Adrian Forbes.
