Sheffield United striker Billy Sharp has explained why he opted to taunt Norwich City supporters rather than celebrating in front of his own home support after scoring the only goal in the Blades 1-0 victory on Saturday.

The 34-year-old has become a talismanic figure for the Blades, netting 106 goals from 263 appearances across three spells with United.

Chris Wilder's men continued their impressive season with a 1-0 victory over City on Saturday, when Sharp's header from an excellent John Lundstram cross condemned the Canaries to their 18th top-flight defeat this season.

Sharp celebrated by putting his finger to his lips in front of City's away fans. His decisive goal was merely his third of the season and the Blades captain opted to respond to the portion of the Canaries travelling contingent that was giving him stick.

"I was getting a bit of stick from their fans but I'm all for it, it's part of football. I gave a little bit back. Don't forget our fans are above them so I can celebrate where I want.

"I was just happy to get a goal and if they give me stick, I'm happy to give some back. The fans are the people that make football and we want to interact with them," Sharp told the Sheffield Star.

"I do it in a good-humoured way and so does Deano (Henderson). It makes us want to do well. It's all good banter and it's good fun."
