Norwich City manager Peter Grant has played down speculation linking Canaries' starlet Chris Martin with a move to Premiership giants Manchester United.

Martin's impressive start to senior football has apparently caught the eye of none other than Sir Alex Ferguson, according to one national newspaper. One Sunday tabloid even claimed United “lead the chase for Norwich's man of the moment”.

But Grant admitted at this morning's Colney press conference he was not expecting a call from Sir Alex anytime soon.

“You know what you newspaper guys are like. Manchester United? I think they have got more concerns on their mind,” said Grant. “But every time our players are mentioned it means we have got quality here. It doesn't concern me in the least.”

He added: “I'd be very happy as a player if I was linked with Manchester United. You want to be playing with the very best but he knows he's got a hell of a long way to go.”

Martin, 18, pictured left, has five goals in 10 first team matches but after scoring in four successive games, he drew a blank at Cardiff on Saturday.

t The Canaries, meanwhile, are said to be watching 6ft 4in Histon defender Matt Michel-King, also reported to be attracting the attention of Cardiff, Reading and Peterborough.
