Queen of the South manager Allan Johnston is excited to add Norwich City youngster Aidan Fitzpatrick to his squad on a season-long loan, tipping the Scotland Under-19 winger to have a bright future.
Media north of the border reported last week that the Scottish Championship club were hoping to sign the 19-year-old and the loan has now been confirmed.
Fitzpatrick joined Norwich from Partick Thistle in the summer of 2019, having made 32 senior appearances, in a deal reportedly worth an initial £350,000 with potential add-on fees and a sell-on fee.
Queen of the South boss Johnston, speaking to his club’s website, said: “Aidan is still young but has a very big future ahead of him in the game. He already has experience of the Championship with Partick Thistle where his performances earned him a move to Norwich City.
“His time in England and his hunger to play regular first team football will hopefully be to our advantage.
“We are grateful to Norwich for giving him us on loan for the season and I’m sure he will fit well into the team that we are trying to build.”
The Scot made 14 appearances for City’s under-23s last season, with his only goal coming against Aston Villa in a Premier League Two fixture at Villa Park during the early stages of last season.
Top flight action has already started but the Scottish Championship season is not due to get under way until October 17, with Queen of the South kicking off with three League Cup games at the start of October.
The Dumfries club narrowly avoided relegation last season, as they were sitting second from bottom when the campaign was brought to an end in March due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Fitzpatrick is the 10th Canaries player to leave on loan during the summer transfer window, joining fellow U23 midfielder Isak Thorvaldsson in Scotland, who is with Premiership side St Mirren.
Fellow U23 prospects Dan Adshead and Sebastian Soto have been training with Dutch second tier club Telstar during pre-season as well but their loans haven’t been confirmed.
