Former Norwich City midfielder Andrew Surman has been released by AFC Bournemouth following their relegation from the Premier League.

The 33-year-old’s contract expired at the end of July, but he signed an extension to participate in their final top-flight games of the season.

Surman made 226 appearances in all competitions for the Cherries, scoring 11 goals across a seven year association with the club since signing for them from City on loan back in 2013.

He made his stay on the south coast a permanent one a year later, and has been a major protagonist in the club’s rise under former boss Eddie Howe. Surman helped the Cherries in their Championship title-winning season in the 2015/16 season.

The South African born midfielder made 58 appearances for the Canaries during a four-year stint after signing from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2010.

Surman played a pivotal role in securing the Canaries top-flight status in 2011/12 under then boss Paul Lambert, making 25 appearances on the left side of the diamond.

Experienced Bournemouth defender Simon Francis has also left the club as they continue their preparations for life back in the Championship under new boss Jason Tindall.
