Title celebrations are under way for three Norwich City loanees and a former Canaries academy player following last night’s National League vote.

The party started locally as King’s Lynn Town received the verdict they had been hoping for, with clubs voting for the curtailed season to be settled on the unweighted points-per-game method, which sees them promoted to the top tier of non-league as champions.

The Linnets, managed by Canaries legend Ian Culverhouse, had City youngsters Alfie Payne and Simon Power in their squad this season to help them seal the National League North title.

Republic of Ireland U21 winger Power joined in January and scored twice in six games prior to the season being suspended in March due to the coronavirus pandemic, both of which were in the 2-1 win at play-off chasing Gateshead in early March. The 22-year-old has another year on his Canaries contract, with the option for a further 12 months.

Payne, 20, whose contract is not being renewed by Norwich this summer, scored three goals in 25 games across the season, 10 of which were league starts.

The decision is also good news for City goalkeeper Aston Oxborough, who was a regular for Wealdstone either side of a couple of months out with a fractured thumb this season, who have been crowned National League South champions.

The 22-year-old local lad signed a new deal earlier this year extending his contract until 2022, with the option of a further year.

He was playing alongside a former Norwich U23 team-mate at Wealdstone this season, with Michee Efete a regular for the Stones, scoring eight goals from full-back.

The 23-year-old was released by City in 2018 after loan stints with Icelandic club Breidablik and National League side Torquay United. After a stint with Maidstone United the defender has played a key role for Wealdstone this season.
