City could net a six-figure cash boost if their former goalkeeper, Robert Green, makes a big money move from West Ham to Aston Villa.

Villa boss Martin O'Neill is reported to have targeted the 28-year-old ex-Canary as a potential £6m capture as he steps up his search for a new 'keeper following Scott Carson's return to Liverpool at the end of last season.

After five years as first choice at Carrow Road, England international Green joined the Hammers in August 2006 for a fee rising to £2m.

City chief executive Neil Doncaster confirmed that a sell-on clause was built into the deal but would not divulge the figures, saying: “We don't normally make those details public.”

When striker Dean Ashton moved to Upton Park for £7.25m in January 2006, City were reported to have negotiated a sell-on clause giving them 15 per cent of any profit West Ham make if they sell him.

If a similar percentage applied to Green and he moved for £6m, it could be worth £600,000 to the Canaries.

Green was named supporters' player of the year at West Ham last season and earned a recall to the England squad, but has not added to the one full international cap he won against Colombia in 2005.

Tottenham's Paul Robinson is another possible target for O'Neill - and they may be more willing to sell than West Ham.
