Nigel Worthington called on Darren Huckerby to 'cut out the Roy of the Rovers stuff' after the in-form frontman had helped the Canaries to an important victory.

The City boss was delighted with Huckerby's overall performance, which earned him a well deserved man-of-the-match award - and was full of praise for the tremendous late volley that spared the home fans another nail-biting finale.

But he was less pleased when his winger carelessly lost possession in the closing stages while going for another spectacular goal, and after the game spelt out the dangers of taking a cavalier approach when 2-0 up.

"The disappointing thing is that we have not learned to win the game when we should," he said. At 2-0 up you should keep the ball. We are a lot better with it than without it. Derby have gone on to have a few shots on goal by us giving it away.

"You know what Darren can do. He is in good form at the moment and he is a very big player for us.

"He was excellent except for the last five minutes. It was Roy of the Rovers stuff at the end, which I was not happy about. I've told him I don't want to see that sort of thing again. A 2-0 win will do me fine and we can keep some goals for next week. If they had scored a goal with three or four minutes to go then people would have been on edge."

While Worthington was critical of Huckerby's ball retention in the closing stages, and he was full of admiration for the manner he which he skillfully dispatched it into the net in the 83rd minute.

"It was a great goal," he said. "The one thing I do know is that he has had two touches and to score goals you have got to have quick feet. He has set himself up and then, bang, it was in the back of the net."
