Former City boss Nigel Worthington says he is ready to return to football management.

Worthington, sacked by the Canaries on October 1, said he felt refreshed after a three-month break and was looking for a new start.

A studio guest on yesterday's Goals On Sunday show on Sky Sports, he said of his period away from football: “It's been nice and I'm ready to go again.

“When I finished at Norwich at the start of October I promised myself and my family that we'd leave it to the new year.

“I've had a couple of offers in between that, but I stuck by my promise to the family and, now the new year is here, it's a case of wait and see what happens.

“I've thoroughly enjoyed it. We've been able to do things as a family over the last three months, recharge the batteries and get ready to go again.”

Asked if he had been “shattered” by his experience of the sack, he said: “You love the game, it's your job and you're in it. After you come out, you think 'I've already been through that'. It's part and parcel of football and I wouldn't change that for the world.”

He remembered only good times with City, he said.

“At Norwich City, just good times. That's all the memories - getting to the play-offs, getting promotion. Wonderful times, seeing a football club grow. Magnificent, the support around the city on an evening when 50 or 60,000 people were there, wonderful memories. And I think every manager goes through an indifferent period and it comes to an end, but good memories are all that I've got of the football club, and great affection for the football club.”
