After a disappointing performance in their 4-0 defeat at the hands of Leicester City last week, David Williams' young side bounced back with victory from a tough trip to FA Premier Academy Under-18 League leaders Southampton this afternoon.

With the Saints having lost only two games all season, the Canaries caused a major upset with their victory repeating the scoreline from couple of seasons ago when Ryan Jarvis netted the only goal of the game.

With Michael Spillane on duty with the Republic of Ireland in Dublin, Rossi Jarvis slotted into the heart of the defence alongside Andrew Cave-Brown.

Williams was pleased with the way his side went about the task in hand with their attitude and mentality from the first whistle.

City made a bright start and could have opened the scoring after just four minutes when a shot from Chris Martin struck the woodwork.

Just two minutes later, however, City took the lead when a Chris MARTIN free kick took a deflection of the Southampton wall. Martin was clearly the danger man for City and midway through the second half, after good work from Bally Smart, he saw his shot well saved by the Southampton 'keeper.

City thought they had doubled their lead shortly after when a shot from Smart was only parried by the 'keeper, but when Seb Muddel fired in the rebound, he was adjudged to be offside.

Norwich City Under-18: Lewis, Bexfield, Eagle, Cave-Brown, Jarvis, Fisk, Muddel, Kelly, El Ouargui (Eames, 70 min), Martin, Smart. Sub (not used) Quaye.

City man of match: Chris Martin.
